At the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), we’re committed to evolving with the needs of our members. That’s why, in 2024, we undertook a full review of our regional structure to ensure that every member benefits from meaningful professional development opportunities, regardless of where they are based.

Why we made the change

During our extensive review we found that some of our Centres, BES Regions and regional groups were not operating as intended, despite the incredible dedication of volunteers and members who have supported these groups, various challenges, many beyond their control, limited the impact we could make locally.

In response, the SOE Trustee Board made the proactive decision to merge a number of regions. The aim? To deliver a more streamlined and effective approach that enhances access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), events, and peer networking opportunities.

What this means for you

You may have been allocated to an updated SOE region, to find out which region you’re part of, follow these steps:

  • Log in to the MySOE portal.
  • Click on the ‘Update Details’ tab.
  • Your updated region will be listed alongside your personal details, such as your address.

This change is about strengthening local engagement. By bringing our efforts together, we can concentrate resources, grow participation, and deliver more consistent value to members in every region.

Greater flexibility, more opportunities

We know that time and travel can sometimes limit participation. That’s why, alongside our regional events, we’re increasing the number of online events, allowing you to engage in CPD activities and hear from expert speakers from wherever you are.

Want to help shape our events programme? Then please do get in touch, we’re always open to suggestions and looking for volunteers to collaborate with.

A smoother, smarter structure

We understand that change can bring questions. We’re committed to making this transition as smooth as possible and will continue to share updates on new regional events, contacts, and opportunities in the coming months.

These changes are part of a larger commitment: to modernise the SOE and build a more accessible, inclusive, and professionally rewarding experience for all members.

If you have questions or queries about the changes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at membership@soe.org.uk.
